Our Story

For years I have day dreamed about about being completely self sufficient, living off the grid, on a lovely picturesque small holding in a humble dwelling with a thatched roof. Chickens at my feet whilst I feed the pigs and round up a few sheep........
My husband is more than happy to indulge my day dreaming and sometimes it is easy to believe that we may achieve it one day!
The reality is, we live in a town, in an expensive county in England. We cannot afford to buy any kind of property, let alone a small holding. True self sufficiency in the UK is highly unlikely for many reasons. That doesn't have to mean the end of the day dreaming though! One day I hope we do achieve our dream of living on a small holding set up.... one....day.....For now though there was something I could do to get us a teeny tiny step closer to the lifestyle we desire.
So in December 2015 I skipped off to our local allotment site to put my name on the waiting list, we may not manage self sufficiency there, but we could became a little more sufficient in the fruit and veg growing department!Just 3 months later we were given our plot, a small 3 rod rectangle known as PLOT 28B.
Our wealth of experience may have been limited to growing a trough of lettuces at aged 12, and a planter or 2 of strawberry's in the last 5 yrs but that didn't dampen our enthusiasm, and as a family, we jumped straight in to learn this 'grow your own' stuff together.

Less than 3 months later, still complete newbies with half a plot still to dig, we were offered the 3 rod rectangle plot next door, PLOT 28A, of course we couldn't say no, infact it felt like we had just won the lottery.

That pretty much brings us up to date! So stick around to see our mistakes and successes and hopefully have a lot of fun with it a long the way.
